programs and Services

The LPG's strategic plan outlines four broad areas to focus on to support our members as they publish great Canadian books. These four areas help define our programs and services.

Expand Outreach & Advocacy

LPG advocacy work aims to put a public face on Canadian literary publishing. As the association of literary publishers in English Canada, we inform, persuade, and tell stories about our members' vital role in nurturing and amplifying diverse Canadian voices. We represent LPG members' interests to government, media, and the public.

Outreach means building awareness and readership for Canadian literature--the fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, drama, children's and young adult books, and graphic narratives produced by LPG members. We work collaboratively with partner organizations throughout the book supply chain. Our common cause is to connect readers to essential Canadian-published books.

Enhance Sales Opportunities

Literary publishers often face problems with scale: some services are simply not available on competitive terms to smaller publishers. As a collective, the LPG provides access to critical services at reasonable rates. For example, we offer:

  • group and individual advertising opportunities; and
  • an array of marketing opportunities that include LPG exhibition at in-person and virtual events in Canada, the US, and abroad, including Word on the Street, the Ontario Library Association Super Conference, Congress, US regional trade shows, Frankfurt Book Fair, and London Book Fair.
The LPG's collective marketing activities aim to put a public face on literary publishing in Canada. We connect with book lovers at events, on social media, and through our online books showcase and store, AllLitUp.ca. Seasonal digital sales and marketing campaigns include National Poetry Month, a fall campaign, and a holiday campaign, and other special promotions throughout the year.

Engage & Support Members

The LPG provides a variety of professional development opportunities and industry intelligence to members. These include:

  • Expert speakers at member meetings;
  • Webinars on topics such as pitching literary festivals, accessible ebook workflows, selling foreign rights, submissions management, antiracism and equity, and more;
  • Mentorships with experienced publishing professionals; and
  • Member-to-member knowledge sharing through roundtables and drop-in sessions.

Build Organizational Capacity

We commit to streamlining and updating our operations, where needed, to ensure that members receive the best value.
